Backpacker to Beginner Surfer: How Travel Sparked a Passions
When I left the UK with a backpack and a camera, I didn’t have surfing in mind. I was chasing light, landscapes, and stories. But while working as a photographer in coastal Australia, the waves were impossible to ignore. They called to me every morning and every sunset. Locals made it look effortless—like they were dancing with the ocean. I wanted in.
That first time paddling out felt like stepping into another world. It was chaotic, wild, and totally unfamiliar. I was tossed around like seaweed and had no idea what I was doing. But there was a spark—something primal and freeing.
Finding Waves is my attempt to capture that feeling and share what happened when I followed it. Surfing, like travel, is about discovery. It’s about showing up with an open heart and letting the experience change you. My story might have started as a travel tale, but it quickly became something deeper: a lifelong journey shaped by saltwater and stoke.
